Cadbury Castle as it appeared in the 11th century. A watercolour illustration used in a history book. Don created this fine detailed image after meticulous research and professional guidance. A magazine illustration showing The Duke of Monmouth arriving at Lyme Regis before the start of his ill-fated English rebellion. This culminated with the last battle to be fought on English soil near Bridgwater, Somerset. This - and another of the Battle of Sedgemoor - are now in the collection of the Blake Museum, Bridgwater, Somerset. A Viking for a book illustration; note the relatively small size of the horse. A number of photographs taken at a Viking re-enactment event were employed as reference sources. Professional assistance was given to ensure that all the details were authentic. A mediaeval archer with longbow for a book on fortifications. The archer was developed using a computer 3D figure modelling application to produce several renderings of the figure. A composite drawing was made which was then clothed. A Viking ship for use as a book illustration. This image was created wholly on the computer by Don using a graphic tablet and a specialized paint application. Don built up the sky and sea in separate layers before constructing the ship then adding the figures. "It was an interesting exercise" he said, "but a brush and wet paint still has more attraction for me". The old and new Winchester Minsters as they may have appeared before the 10th century. Don first developed the structure using a computer 3D modelling program and then used the rendered images as sources for his watercolour painting.
