| "A Peaceful Afternoon" Watercolour on 400lb paper, dimensions 48 by 36 cm. (ref. 972) This was painted by Don Lavelle by the side of the King's Sedgemoor River in Somerset. The landscape in Somerset is mainly flat and the 'levels' are cut by natural and man-made rivers. Don has chosen a viewpoint near Taunton which typifies the landscape but he has orientated his position to include a background of the Quantock Hills. | "Peaceful River: Upper
Reaches of the Teign". Watercolour on 200lb paper 52 by 35 cm. (ref. 986) Don Lavelle painted this in two day-long sessions and completed it in the studio. The river runs steadily round the bend and down through the trees in the distance. Don has captured the feeling of the place and the interplay between light and dark leaves adds movement to the painting. Careful use of masking fluid and a gas stove speeded up the process of achieving significant amounts of detail. |

| "Off the Road: A View
Towards High Ham". Oil painting on primed and undercoated board 64 by 43 cm. (ref. 978) A tranquil landscape in Somerset with late afternoon sunlight being reflected in the river. This landscape painting was mainly executed on site and details completed several weeks later in the studio. | "Walking on the King's
Sedgemoor" Oil painting 59 by 44 cm on board. (ref. 953) This oil painting was actually started and completed on site by Don. The figures were added later, purely from imagination. A selected, detailed enlargement of the figures is shown here. |

| "A Secluded Spot". Watercolour on Arches paper 43 by 32 cm. Private collection. Rocky Brook at Abbey Village is known to few people and offers a sanctuary from the intensity of Lancashire life. | "The Meaning Of Life". Watercolour size 31 by 24 cm. (ref. 1303) The artist sat in one of his neighbour's meadows to paint the dry grasses and trees in watercolour. The figures were added later using drawings of models. |
